Diana,

Mine has the steel tube and I have three thin wires running through that - I
actually have a relay box and a switch hidden away that lets me use a column
mounted stalk (series 2 type) for the flashing indicators (normal use) or
use the windscreen mounted trafficator switch to run the trafficators alone
(to show people) or use the windscreen switch to run both trafficators and
flashers (to surprise people in town traffic so they let me go first). The
relay box cuts out the column switch whenever the trafficator switch is in
use so there cannot be conflicting signals. The hidden switch is to allow
the trafficator switch to control the flashing indicators or simply to cut
them out when it is operated.

On the subject of indicator wiring - on my previous 80" a 1950 it had a
little flexible corrugated steel tube just in front of the driver for the
wiring to the wiper motor (and trafficators).  

What do others do to return the RHS and LHS indicator wiring to the
bulkhead?
