I meant that the cab top IS the head restraint I'd hardly think that a head
rest in an 80" would be appropriate.

As my restoration is in the very, very early stages the hard top is quite at
the end of my list with things to do. But the idea to get one from the US is
tempting and could indeed prove to be a good solution. Regarding seat belts
I am rather generous. If wanted a rally type harness belt can be installed
easily, ahead rest however would, in my opinion, take away a lot of the
charm these vehicles have. My SIII had seats from a Renault Clio and these
were quite comfortable, but I changed them back to original several years
ago

But as it will be a summer vehicle only I could also live with a canvas
hood.

I hope to be able to start dismantling it before Xmas...

One other aspect, in terms of safety, the lack of seatbelts and head
restraints in Series 1's, always worries me.  I don't like the idea of
driving with a stiff neck collar on to prevent spinal injuries but a cab
top, is in about the correct place for a head restraint and your skull
harder than the aluminium.
