It's what you get used to, I have driven round most of Australia at various
times and while I love the country, it can get awfully hot, 40+ degree
Celsius during the day, yet get down to 0 degree Celsius at night. Lots of
interesting places to see but frequently vast distances between those
sights.

When I first went to the Northern Territory in the 1970's all the main roads
into and out of the "Territory" were gravel, hundreds and hundreds of
kilometres of gravel. The corrugations in the road were made by the road
trains (a prime mover and articulated trailer usually with 2 dogs and
trailers behind often a 62 wheeler) so the size and frequency of the ruts
did not suit little 6.00 X 16 tyres and the Landy felt like it was going to
fall apart.

I have many stories and could go on and on - but so could we all.

Sometimes wish I could get up into some alpine regions with tall trees and
the cool water of a myriad of little creeks and a touch of snow here and
there. (Allan will tell us that we have all that in Kosiuscko and the
Bogong High Plain, but I mean real mountains.) You know Australia's tallest
mountain is only 7,310 feet so a couple of real mountains would be a change
of scenery.

G'day Diana
That sounds feasible.
The Us and Canada are surely breathtaking with regards to scenery ,but so is
Australia, i would imagine.

Sydney to Darwin is a real long and boring way, many many fewer trees than
you would see on your trip. ......

..........I think the alpine regions of North America would be much more
interesting
in an 80".

Maybe we could swap, when my 80" is finished you can come over and borrow
her and go bush into the outback and I can borrow yours and go see Canada.

Diana
