    Thanks guys,
    I really was beginning to think that I am the only one left who 
thinks that way. Would be keen to confirm or displel the 22 tons of 
waste thing. At the risk of further inflating fuel prices, the trouble 
is that energy was been underpriced. Ore is carted around the world, 
refined carted around the world again, you get the picture. It all takes 
energy and the consumer (and the envirinment) pays. Who said the owners 
and drivers of  SUVs (when did they suddenly become SUVs anyway?) do not 
care.
    I found recently that I could not readily even buy brushes for my 
Series I Discovery's alternator, certainly not from a Land Rover parts 
supplier anyway. The upshot is that I now have a spare reconditioned 
alternator with a new front bearing and brushes sitting in a box ready 
for when it may be required.
