The siamese bore engine has the oil filter element on the exhaust side , in
front of the starter. the standard distributor for that engine needs the 261
240 cap.
The spread bore engine has the filter unit ( with replacable paper element)
on the intake side under the manifold. It's standard distributor needs the
245 004 cap ( as shown on the TLR web site)
You may have purchased a spread bore cap in a siamese bore box.
I am not sure wether the later and more spares friendly distributor is
"direct swappable" or if it needs some modifications.
I would think the list has some experts on that topic.
