I am in Sydney at the moment so don't have access to the DVX distributor,
however I do have access to a spread bore 2L motor and it's distributor. If
you view the distributor in the same position as it is in the parts book (
vacuum advance diaphragm to your left), on the flat between the vacuum
advance and the advance adjustment screw, there is a series of numbers. The
lower number is 40504A.

This number represents the Lucas part number listed in the 1954-57 Land
Rover parts catalogue as the Lucas part number for engines 57138230 onwards.
As a point of interest, from the same book the Lucas part number for the
earlier distributor (engines up to 57138229) is DM2 40330B.

As confirmation from the "Lucas Popular Selected Spare Parts" catalogue, one
of the caps for the DM2 distributor (horizontal leads) is 418871, the same
number listed for the cap on Land Rover vehicles 1954/58.

The 418871 cap for the 1957 2 litre also fits a series 2 distributor which
is also in my garage. The difference between the S1 and S2 caps is the
direction of the leads, they are both smaller than the cap for the early
DVX, DV, DX distributors.

If you need one I have a spare top entry cap for the early distributor (the
one from Craddock's), however you would get this in about the same time as
one from Craddocks.

Sorry I can't be of more help today.

Hi Tom and Diana,

Yes, a bit confusing, particularly as a check of the box for the cap
from TLR shows that it has been remarked and the Minerva spares book
shows that at some point the Belgian Army swapped out the original
distributors although the replacement number is illegible on my copy. It
is logical to think that the ABL substituted the same model used on their
later Landys, but who knows?

The distributor in the TT is, according to the casting on the body, a 25D
which my local Brit mechanic tells me is the same model used on Jags, MGs
and others, including the II/III Landys. I'm going to dump it in his lap
and see if he can sort it all out. For interest, what's the casting id on
the body of an original '52 distributor?

Fortunately, the TT is running fine at present, but I'd like to have spare
distributor bits along :-)
