I just checked my Lucas book again.  The distributor cap Lucas 415298, has
the screw in HT leads entering vertically and is the same number as the cap
for the Land Rover 1952/53, Standard "Vanguard" 1950/52 and Ferguson All
models (Petrol and VO) 1946/57.  (The compatible distributors are listed as
D3A4, DV, DX where the earlier LR distributor was listed as DVX.)

The later distributor for the 1954/58 is DM2 and as we thought the cap is
Lucas 418871.

P.S. It sounds like you will need stainless security mesh for the flies on
the trip!

This is all very frustrating for you.

I have to agree with Tom the cap for your vehicle is Rover Part 261240
(Lucas Part 415298).

If you have a cap that is too small for your distributor and it came out of
a box marked 261240.  Then the cap you have is a Rover Part 245004 (Lucas
Part 418871) and was packed in the wrong box.
