So, You could then undo the bolt with the crank handle turning clock wise

Ian, looking at the manual, it seems like you have a lefthand thread there.
The crankshaft pully would rotate clockwise when viewed from the front of
the vehicle, thus the bolt would most likely be LH-threaded to prevent it
from loosening.
My humble opinion.
