Its a great trip and one I will do again, this time with a few more
deviations. It would be better if our industry types tried some of these
wild places too instead of the story book travel they thrive on ,might
help them get out of the flowerbeds in K Mart.
One of the things which surprised us was the enthuasam of other
travelers out there for the old cars and the photo stops we took part in
all the way. Dont know how many times we heard I learnt to drive in one
of those, we had one on the farm etc etc.
Sure Land Rovers have their problems but so do the others , you only
have to look in the repair yards when traveling up North and all makes
are there, most of the problems are caused by the ones behind the
wheel .
For anybody planning a trip in their series 1 do it and enjoy it. Its
what they were made for.

Hi Tony,

recently I went to a lecture about 4WD and outback travel, there were
various speakers from industry and one or two "real" explorers present.

One (4WD industry type) who shall remain nameless got up and within
his first few sentences started to rip into Land Rovers! cited the
unfortunate
incident in NW West Australia earlier this year where two people died
as result of bad preparation and planning. Then went on and asked
who in the audience owned a Land Rover and generally criticised anything
Land Rover.
Of course the people died as result of owning a Land Rover.....NOT....

Anyway it came to my mind immediately the trip you guys did up the
Canning
Stock Route
in what I guess would be vehicles of average age 45 years +/- and apart
from
the
steering nut thing nothing went wrong....

I guess what I am saying is it just goes to show it doesn't matter how
old
or new the vehicle is careful sympathetic driving, suitable preparation
and
spares
any old Land Rover can do anything.

What's the next trip you are planning Tony? a West East crossing of
Australia?....

Cheers from Bungendore
