Hello everybody!

I hope you all had a merry Xmas and thoroughly enjoyed feasting and
partying, laying on the beach, shivering in the cold, praying, working,
snoozing or whatever else is usual in your countries!

My 80" has found its way to my garage and I will start to work on it. A big
issue is the question of what to do to start an engine that has stood for
decades?

I have never done anything like that and am a bit at a loss as to what to
do.

My instinct tells me to turn the crank by hand (already done, it turns),
then check oil. Following this put in a battery and jury rig the starter and
see what happens, but with the plugs out, just to get the oil system up and
running.

Next step would be to see whether it fires up. I would not put in coolant as
I only want to give it a short run.

What are your opinions? What else should I do? Or should I do it
differently? Would you possibly skip this and dismantle the engine straight
away?
