Diana,

Without entering into the Lions Den I can confirm what you say about colour.
I recently purchased an ex services late 80 inch door top that was painted
in sand colour with the rivets unpainted. In other words the panel was
painted at the factory and then riveted to the frame to assemble the door.

Have said it before, James Taylor says that ALL the later 80" were British
Army, bronze green while my 51 was a sand colour.  What is more everyone who
sees the original tub with the layers of paint stripped off agrees with me.
 
So I say phooey to James Taylor, though font of knowledge he seems to be,
restore your vehicle the way you want!  Even the Land Rover advertising used
to say there are so many options "no two Land Rovers sold have to be the
same".
