I understand your problem, in Australia as (I believe) in the UK side lights
(on the front) are REQUIRED to be white and indicator lamps are REQUIRED to
be amber both front and rear. So the option of flashing the red stop lamp
is not acceptable to the registration authorities.

Recently Hal, a member from the Victorian S1 register, was experimenting
with clear and amber Hi Intensity LEDs for the front lamps. If you are not
concerned about authenticity then this may be the way to go. He found that
in a ratio of 6:1 Amber:Clear the amber gave a bright flash which
overwhelmed the intensity of the clear which remained on continuously.

Alternatively the Complete Automobilist has a kit to convert the classic
Lucas 1130 wing top sidelamps using small halogen globes. Perhaps you could
modify this arrangement.

For the rear you will have to go with something like the Lucas 1284 similar
to Wren's sand colour 86 you mentioned. You could fit them low on the other
side of the chassis bracket and still fit the UK Number plate.

The final option is to fit a period style reversing lamp on each side of the
rear and use amber 21w globes. You may find local suppliers however Anthony
Pearson acpearson@xxxxxxx.xxx.xx from Vintage and Classic bulbs in Australia
(the people who make halogen replacement bulbs for the standard S1
headlamps) http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com have amber bulbs which fit
the standard BA15s fittings (single pin globes)

Lots to think about!

Cheers
Diana

P.S. - B.T.W. the Speed Limited 75 has been removed from Wren's 86" (Little
Bit - the one with the "I'm old" number plate) since he fitted a Rocky
Mountains Roverdrive.
