Hi again,

I made a mistake in the explanation - its the brake light circuit that is
shared with the flasher circuit, not the tail light. Makes sense. If the
tail light were made to flash you would not see the pulsating effect when
the brakes are applied, since the brighter filament of the brake circuit
would overpower the weaker (less bright) flashing tail lamp.

The UK spec Series 1 generally did not have indicators in the normal sense,
trafficators were available. However, the station wagons and export models
did have the Lucas 488 fittings on the front with twin filament lamps. The
rear indicators were the rear lamps wired in a way which allowed them to
flash. Some cars in the US seem to work like this if I recall correctly.

The only difficulty in the UK is that white front indicators are not common
and other drivers may not notice them and similarly a non-amber rear
indicator could confuse other drivers.
I have stayed with the white front indicators rather than fit additional
amber lights at the front and have fitted amber indicators at the back just
below the cross member. I have used a new Hella relay and all seems find.

Later range rovers appear to have front amber side lights on all the time
and I wondered about fitting twin filament amber lights at the front of my
series 1.

Will, if you still need a pic I could send an image of the rear of my S1
that might help.
