Bob
You will have to ask Mr Lucas the PLC question! There were a range of =
models PLC, PLC3 and PLC6 and probably all the numbers in between.
I know how you can miss out on the full time 4WD thing. As a kid we had =
a 1950 to put our ski boat in the water on remote beaches. When I was a =
little older I joined the Land Rover Club and was envious about the =
later S1's and SII's who could have 4WD in Hi-Range. =20
It was only when I returned to 80" ownership a few years ago that I =
realised what the freewheel unit was all about, but it's O.K. as my =
current number 2 80" has the same type of transmission.=20
If you really like 80" I'm sure there will be a surgeon who will take a =
few inches out of your legs.
Cheers
Diana

Oh!=20
What is the PLC short for?
My First Land-Rover was a 1950 ex-mod rhd. And it was a lot of fun in =
the woods and logging trails in Northern California near Shasta Lake. =
Before I found out it was full time 4wd, I thought it was magic going up =
loose dirt hills.
But I was thirty two years younger then. Still was 6' 2" though it =
didn't matter much.
My 69 -88 fits better but even there I could use more leg room.
I had hip surgery several years ago and the 80" is a bit too short for =
me anymore.
So it is on my mind that I might sell the 51 in the not too distant =
future. I realize it might be worth more to some with the original =
running gear, but it also would have cost a lot more to complete it. And =
actually I like it a lot the way it is. It has the original look with a =
bit more modern And much stronger engine etc.
Also the top/roof/hood that Badger made for me is wonderful. The =
quality is like what you would expect to see on Jag-you-are or Rolls, if =
they make a ragtop.

That's the ignition and headlamp switch where you have a gauge.

Ok Diana, I'll bite! What is a Lucas PLC.
My chevy engine has the fuel pump on the engine and the delco =
alternator has a built in regulator. So the fuse block is mounted on =
that location along with the flashers for 4way flashers and =
directionals.
Heck I think I got the hooters from a renault at the pick and pull.
Not that I dislike lucas.I just use what works. On my 88 after getting =
rid of the regulator for the same reason (alternator), I moved the coil =
there to be closer to the distributor. Then soon after that I removed =
the coil by adding a GM HEI distributor with the coil in the cap, and =
one heck of a spark.
