Here I just can't agree with you.  CPAN is the strength of Perl.
Flexible and intuitive syntax is nothing in comparison with being able
to FIND usable modules.  Google is not a replacement.  If I can avoid
repeating someone else's mistakes, I'm a much happier programmer.

I did so, and "wow", you're right, there's a lot of stuff out there.

But...nothing that I think I'd want to use.  Granted, that's an opinion
borne of an entire 3 minutes of browsing, but that's all the time it
takes for me to get a decent opinion of something on CPAN.  I'm sure
there's quality stuff out there, but CPAN seems to have a much high
signal to noise ratio. 

However, I'm looking at modules, and a lot of what you're discussing is
scripts and applications.  For those I'll google, but usually I don't
much care what language they are written in.  CPAN isn't an application
resource, it's a programming resource.  Could it be that there's a
disconnect in expections?

That's exactly why I'd argue _for_ CPAN.  A project on some corner of
the internet may seem perfectly findable and supported to the community
that does know about it...but what about everyone else?  They're going
to CPAN.
