I think there is a difference between expected support from the
community, and implied support from the module author.  There is also
the difference between support for using the module (which is very
well handled by the community of programmers on the mailing list), and
support for bug fixes and new releases, which only you (by your own
right and choice) are able to provide to the community that has built
up around you (short of forking the codebase).

I don't think a lot of the users of Class::DBI expect a lot of your
time, but in the last year you have implied through your many posts
that you are actively working on improving Class::DBI.  And I think
some people (myself included) have mis-interpreted how you plan to
achieve that goal.  I would prefer several small bug fix and doc fix
releases, whereas you appear to want to accumulate some momentum in
the changes before releasing (perhaps by choice or maybe because of
circumstances).

I have a feeling that the longer you wait, the harder it is becoming
to safely release a new version (where safe is defined as being low
impact on the userbase).  And the harder it is becoming for you to
manage all the contributions that people have been making in the last
year or so.

I am a happy user of Class::DBI, and will continue to be so regardless
if a new release happens.  Unless something better comes along next
week ;)
